Most residential decks under 40m² are completed within 1-2 weeks once council consent and groundworks are cleared. Larger or more complex builds, such as multi-level decks, pool surrounds, or decks requiring significant foundation work will 2 – 4 weeks. The full timeline from first consultation to completion usually looks like this: initial site visit and quote (within 24 hours), consent processing if required (10-20 working days through Auckland Council), and then construction begins. We always provide a clear timeline upfront so there are no surprises, and we stick to it.

Under the Auckland Unitary Plan, a building consent is generally required if your deck’s fall height exceeds 1.5 metres above ground level, if the deck forms part of a pool barrier or fencing, if the deck is attached to a building and affects its structural integrity, or if it’s within 1 metre of a boundary. Simple, low-level decks under 1.5m high that are freestanding often fall under Schedule 1 exempt work, meaning no consent is needed. The rules can be confusing, so we handle this for you. We assess your site, prepare all required drawings and documentation, and lodge the consent application with Auckland Council on your behalf. No extra hassle on your end.

Very little, that’s the biggest advantage of composite decking. We recommend a gentle wash with warm soapy water twice a year to remove dirt, pollen, and any surface mould. A soft-bristle brush or low-pressure hose works perfectly. Unlike timber, composite decking never needs sanding, staining, oiling, or re-sealing. Most quality composite boards (Trex and Millboard) come with 25-year fade and stain warranties, so they’re genuinely set-and-forget.

Deck costs in Auckland vary depending on the materials, size, complexity, and site access. As a rough guide. A treated pine decking typically starts from $220 – $400 per square metre installed, hardwood decking (kwila, vitex) ranges from $400-$600 per square metre, and composite decking (Trex, Millboard) ranges from $500-$700 per square metre. These prices include labour, framing, balustrades, and finishing.
